Emergency Care Center

The Emergency Care Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital aims to provide around-the-clock world-class emergency care to all citizens of Miami-Dade County in an efficient and timely manner, while practicing cutting-edge emergency medicine.

We see a high volume of both urgent and critically ill patients (approximately 90,000 adults per year; approximately 30,000 children per year) across all specialties and ages, providing appropriate back-up from specialists in all fields of medicine, surgery, pediatrics and gynecology. As we are a teaching environment for medical students, interns and residents, they are under the constant supervision of highly trained attendings present 24 hours a day.

Upon arrival, patients are triaged in the order of the acuity of their illness, as well as in the order in which they arrive. Patients who do not have an emergency medical condition upon screening examination may be referred to the Primary Care Centers or the clinics. Additionally, we have an Express Care area for those who need to be seen quickly, but are not experiencing serious conditions.

To better serve our patients, in the next year we anticipate new high-speed CT scanners, the introduction of an electronic medical record and the construction of a new emergency department.
