Hematology/Oncology (IM)

The Hematology/Oncology Division of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine offers a well-integrated fellowship training program which leads to eligibility for Hematology and/or Oncology Board Examination after a three year training program. The fellowship program is accredited by ACGME.

The program selects 4 fellows per academic year through the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). All applicants must submit their applications via ERAS. U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or physicians under H-1B or J-1 (exchange visitor program) can apply to our fellowship program.

The fellowship program is under the supervision of Dr. Pasquale W. Benedetto (Director) and Dr Edgardo S. Santos (Associate Director). To focus on fellows’ needs and improvements, our fellowship also has a Fellowship Advisory Committee which consists of 7 members as well as a Mentorship Program which has the task of guiding the career goals of each fellow during training.

The Hematology/Oncology fellowship program at the University of Miami offers a broad exposure to hematological and oncologic diseases in both in-patient and outpatient settings in 3 different hospitals: Jackson Memorial Medical Center, Miami Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. Our fellows also have the opportunity to assess and treat patients with acute hematological problems requiring stem cell transplantation.

Program Goals

• to provide a broad background in hematology and oncology

• to permit specialized emphasis in either hematology or oncology depending on a fellow's interests

• to provide opportunities for the fellow to develop skills in laboratory and/or translational/clinical research in a supervised setting
