The Department of Pathology provides expertise in all areas of pathology and laboratory medicine. In addition to the vast array of educational and research activities, the delivery of comprehensive health care to patients is a major commitment. Practically every known laboratory procedure from the routine to the most esoteric is performed in the UM/Jackson pathology laboratories. Through our reference laboratory, Pathology Reference Service, these services are available to community physicians and hospitals. Special units such as the Diagnostic Molecular Biology Laboratory, Immunohistochemistry Laboratory and the Flow Cytometry Laboratory offer the most sophisticated and advanced laboratory technologies for the diagnosis of disease.
