Poison Control

When to call the Poison Information Center?
-
If a mother finds her 2-year-old son with her birth control pills?
-
If you are at work and you splash a solvent or paint in your eye?
-
If you are a physician taking care of a 35-year-old male who works with pesticides and was not wearing a mask or gloves?
-
If your grandmother mistakenly drinks bleach?
-
If you are thinking about planting some crepe myrtles and are worried that your new puppy might chew on the leaves or eat the berries?
All of the above
questions are examples of cases called into the poison center at FPIC/Miami.
There is no such thing as a "silly" question. Seventy to seventy-five percent of
poisonings can be treated safely at home over the telephone with the
intervention of the FPIC/Miami. Specially trained nurses and pharmacists are
available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to offer treatment, preventive
advice and information regarding potential poison hazards. If you have a
question do not hesitate to call 1-800-222-1222.
