Pediatrics
Message from the Program Director
Welcome to our training
program’s Web site. With 60 categorical,
16 Med-Peds residents and more than 30 subspecialty
fellows, we are the largest pediatric training center in Florida, and among the
largest in the United States.
Yet our residents will swear it doesn’t seem that big.
They learn and train in a demanding yet supportive environment, and are
supervised and taught by a skilled, dedicated faculty. Our program prides itself
on its “residentricity.” Residents coordinate all patient care and participate
in every aspect of the educational curriculum. There are no private patients;
all patients are cared for by pediatric residents. Our ideal balance of resident
autonomy and faculty supervision fosters an exciting and motivational
educational atmosphere.
The Holtz Children's
Hospital, the program’s hub, is a unique, primary/tertiary/quaternary
pediatric facility, serving both the multi ethnic urban population of South
Florida, and regional and international referrals. The hospital complex and the
adjacent University of Miami
Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine campus comprise one of the largest
medical centers in the southeast. The University of Miami is one of the nation’s
top 50 research universities, and the Miller School ranks #1 in NIH awards among
all Florida medical schools. We are proud to be one of 10 national sites for the
Anne E. Dyson Community Pediatrics Training Initiative (www.aap.org/commpeds/cpti), offering
a child advocacy curriculum, designated research exposure and abundant
opportunities for community outreach.
Our program mirrors the global, diverse flavor of Miami,
both in patient population and resident roster, making it rich in cultural
diversity and international exposure. We are fortunate to attract outstanding
trainees from all over the United States and abroad, and our selection process
is careful and objective.
If you seek superior pediatric training in a truly
academic environment, a solid platform from which to launch your career, and the
opportunity to live and work in beautiful and vibrant Miami, we may be the
program for you. For more information, please contact us.
Thanks for visiting our Web site and for your interest in
our program. We hope you visit soon and discover all we have to
offer.
