Three Jackson Units Recognized for Outstanding Patient Satisfaction Scores

Three Jackson Health System units received awards from Professional Research Consultants, Inc., also known as PRC, for receiving high patient satisfaction scores in 2008. South Wing 8 at Jackson Memorial Hospital and the Pediatric Emergency Room at Holtz Children's Hospital were awarded for having a score at or above 90 percent for the year. The Mental Health Unit at Jackson South Community Hospital received two awards: one for scoring at or above 90 percent for the year and a second for receiving the highest score of any mental health unit in the PRC database.

PRC is a marketing research organization that calls a random selection of patients from each unit and department after they are discharged or received services at Jackson. The consultants ask past patients a series of questions to objectively rate the quality of service they received.

Congratulations to all the winners!!

World-renowned Fetal Surgeon Joins UM/Jackson

World-renowned fetal surgeon Rubén A. Quintero, M.D., has joined the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and Women’s Hospital Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital as director of the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.  At University of Miami/Jackson, Dr. Quintero has launched the only fetal therapy program in Florida.

Few hospitals in the country offer these services, which can effectively treat previously untreatable, life-threatening disorders discovered in unborn babies.  Dr. Quintero is a leader in the field of fetal therapy, a subspecialty in existence since 1980. He is best known for developing a minimally invasive approach for the correction of birth defects in utero, also known as Operative Fetoscopy. He has also developed the selective laser technique to treat twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS), a condition resulting from the unbalanced flow of blood between two fetuses sharing a common placenta.

After undergoing fetal surgery, infants can receive additional care after their birth at Jackson’s Holtz Children’s Hospital, known worldwide for its team of pediatric specialists experienced in treating children with all types of needs, from routine care to life-saving procedures.
