Jackson Health System, an integrated healthcare delivery system, consists of its centerpiece, Jackson Memorial Hospital; 12 primary care centers and two primary care mobile vans; multiple school-based clinics serving many elementary, middle and high schools; two long-term care nursing facilities; six Corrections Health Services clinics; a network of mental health facilities; Holtz Children’s Hospital, Jackson Rehabilitation Hospital, Jackson North Medical Center and Jackson South Community Hospital.

Governed by the Public Health Trust, a dedicated team of citizen volunteers acting on behalf of the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners, Jackson Health System ensures that all residents of Miami-Dade County receive a single high standard of care regardless of their ability to pay.

Opened in 1918, Jackson Memorial Hospital is an accredited, tax-assisted, tertiary teaching hospital with more than 1,500 licensed beds. In conjunction with the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine faculty, Jackson Memorial provides a wide range of patient services, educational programs, a clinical setting for research activities and a number of health-related community services.

Convenient Access to Quality Care


The primary care centers included in the Jackson Health System network are strategically located throughout the county in areas identified as having the greatest need. These clinics focus on localized health maintenance and disease prevention for the populations they serve. The community based health centers are sensitive to the special needs and health status indicators within their respective neighborhoods.

Jackson Health System's neighborhood-based primary care centers are linked to the UM/Jackson Memorial Medical Center. About one-third of the patients who visit Jackson Memorial Hospital annually are referred through primary care centers in the community. The primary care network is linked by a computerized information system that shares demographic and medical information, and facilitates patient movement throughout the system. This ensures proper care in the appropriate setting.
