• Jackson Health System is an integrated
healthcare delivery system with more than 12,000 employees that provides medical
services to residents of Miami-Dade County and beyond.
• Jackson Health System consists of 10 primary care centers, 17 school-based
clinics, two long-term care nursing facilities, an outpatient diagnostic center,
a children’s hospital, a rehabilitation hospital, a mental health hospital, two
community hospitals and the system’s centerpiece: the regional referral,
tertiary care Jackson Memorial Hospital, which is the primary teaching hospital
of the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine.
• The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and Jackson Memorial
Hospital have consistently ranked in U.S.News & World Report among
“America’s Best Hospitals.” In 2008, UM/Jackson was ranked in four different
specialties: ophthalmology; ear, nose and throat; neurology and neurosurgery;
and geriatrics. UM/Jackson has more ranked specialties than any other hospital
in South Florida.
• In 2008, Jackson Health System spent more than $500 million on charity
care, a level that is the highest in Florida and among the highest in the
country.
• The Ryder Trauma Center, located at the University of Miami/Jackson
Memorial Medical Center, is the only adult and pediatric Level 1 Trauma Center
in Miami-Dade County. It is also one of the busiest trauma centers in the nation
and the only one chosen by the U.S. Army to train their military surgical teams
before being deployed to areas of conflict.
• Holtz Children’s Hospital’s Project: New Born Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
(NICU) is a regional referral facility and has 126 beds, 66 of which are Level
III and provide support for the most critically ill. The Level III NICU is the
largest in Florida.
• The Miami Transplant Institute, located at the University of Miami/Jackson
Memorial Medical Center, is ranked among the busiest in the nation, and Jackson
Memorial Hospital is the only Florida hospital to perform every kind of solid
organ transplantation. More than half of the world’s reported multi-organ
transplants have been performed at JMH.
• The University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Burn Center has been one of the
nation’s leading burn treatment facilities since its founding in the 1960s and
is the only such center in Miami-Dade County.
Jackson Health System is made up of five
hospitals: • Jackson Memorial Hospital,
the system’s flagship hospital with 1,558 beds, is the third largest public
teaching hospital in the United States through an academic affiliation with the
University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine. Jackson Memorial is a
training center for physicians and other healthcare professionals from around
the world.
• Holtz Children’s Hospital is one of the largest children’s
hospitals in the southeast United States and one of three centers in the country
that specialize in pediatric multi-organ transplants. Holtz is also home to one
of the largest neonatal intensive care units in the United States and Holtz has
more pediatric physicians on the “Best Doctors in America” list than any other
children’s hospital in South Florida.
• Jackson South Community Hospital is a 199-bed acute-care
hospital located in south Miami-Dade County. Designed specifically for the
patient’s comfort and convenience, Jackson South has state-of-the-art technology
and leading-edge treatments and services. A wide array of specialties and
subspecialties are practiced by nationally respected, board-certified physicians
and healthcare professionals.
• Jackson North Medical Center is a 382-bed, acute-care,
community hospital serving the residents of north Miami-Dade and south Broward
counties. It offers a variety of services including 24-hour adult and pediatric
emergency care, maternity and rehabilitation. Jackson North is also home to
specialized centers such as the Wound Care Center, Center for Mental Health and
the Pain & Spine Institute. Jackson North is also the primary teaching
hospital for newly formed Florida International University College of
Medicine.
• Jackson Rehabilitation Hospital is a state-designated
facility for its Brain & Spinal Cord Injury Program. Additional services
include treatment programs for medical rehabilitation, burns and hand
injuries.
Jackson Health System also offers care through the following venues
and initiatives:
• Primary Care Centers: Jackson Health System operates 10
primary care centers throughout the county, which provide preventative care as
well as outreach services such as health fairs and educational programs to help
people improve their quality of life.
• Care-A-Vans: Every weekday, two Jackson Care-A-Vans,
staffed with bilingual and multicultural healthcare professionals and support
staff, bring high-quality, reliable and comprehensive primary care services to
adults and children in high-risk communities. Because there are regularly
scheduled visits to eight neighborhoods, residents can count on having continued
access to care.
• School-Based Care: Throughout Miami-Dade County, Jackson
Health System operates 17 school-based clinics where students can receive first
aid, immunizations, school physicals, health education, counseling and referrals
to more comprehensive services in the Jackson Care-A-Vans, if needed.
• A Network of Behavioral Health Facilities: Jackson
provides behavioral health services throughout Miami-Dade County including at
Jackson Mental Health Hospital, which consolidates clinical treatment, teaching
and research in one place to provide a full continuum of care for the entire
family: children, adolescents, adults and seniors. The Jackson North
Community Mental Health Center also offers a network of facilities in the north
part of the county that provides adult case management, child mental health and
case management services, crisis stabilization and detoxification, and
residential programs.
