The Department of Public Relations & Marketing oversees all internal and external communications for Jackson Health System, including its network of facilities throughout the county. Our areas of responsibility include: media relations, publications, marketing and special events. Although we are not directly involved in patient care, much of what we do, with the exception of marketing and special events, is related to patient care.

The media relations team works with local, national and international print and broadcast media and other external audiences to showcase Jackson's physicians, staff, research and medical services. The team also works reactively, responding to media inquiries on a variety of medical-related issues.

In our role as media liaison for the hospital, we are the intermediaries between patients and the media. We get numerous calls on a daily basis from media inquiring about Jackson patients. We ensure that the patient’s right to privacy is protected by controlling media access to the hospital.  Patients must sign a media consent form provided by our office prior to the release of medical information.

Approximately 90 percent of the publications produced by our office are focused on patient care and education. Our publications include: the patient handbook, patient newsletters for Case Management, campus map and brochures about specific services. The office is in charge of translating these publications into Spanish and Creole when appropriate.

Special events include Jackson’s participation in community-wide activities as well as employee events which take place on campus. Our staff also spearheads a number of outreach initiatives.

The Public Relations & Marketing Department also manages advertising campaigns and markets all aspects of Jackson Health System as an integrated service network.
