Three Jackson Units Recognized for Outstanding Patient Satisfaction Scores

Three Jackson Health System units received awards from Professional Research Consultants, Inc., also known as PRC, for receiving high patient satisfaction scores in 2008. South Wing 8 at Jackson Memorial and the Pediatric Emergency Room at Holtz Children's Hospital were awarded for having a score at or above 90 percent for the year. The Mental Health Unit at Jackson South Community Hospital received two awards: one for scoring at or above 90 percent for the year and a second for receiving the highest score of any mental health unit in the PRC database.

PRC is a marketing research organization that calls a random selection of patients from each unit and department after they are discharged or received services at Jackson. The consultants ask past patients a series of questions to objectively rate the quality of service they received.

Major Expansion Underway

Jackson South is getting bigger and better! Construction is underway to increase our size by 157,000 square feet and renovate an additional 72,000 square feet of existing space. This exciting project will expand our emergency room and surgical facilities and will add 57 new private patient rooms. It will also convert existing semi-private rooms to private rooms. Dining areas, and the diagnostic imaging and critical care units will be remodeled as well. The expansion will be completed in phases, so the hospital will remain open and operational at all times.

New Team of Expert Physicians

Jackson South Community Hospital is proud to welcome Miami International Surgical Services, a part of the Jackson Medical Group, to its team of expert physicians. The group provides minimally invasive bariatric, colorectal, heartburn and hernia procedures, including the gastric sleeve, which members of the group pioneered. For more than 20 years, Drs. Jacobs, Plasencia, Gomez, Hartmann, Lujan and Viamonte have offered innovative approaches to help patients treat various conditions through surgery with fewer side effects.
